Laura Meeker Wicksall LMSW

Therapist and Owner

I love being a therapist. I’ve always been interested in the experiences of others and therapy provides an exciting opportunity to accomplish this. Through this work I have come to understand pain and struggle as a vital opportunity for growth and transformation. As a therapist and fellow human, it is so meaningful to witness and be a part of the healing that takes place in therapy.

Many people find their way to therapy feeling lost, confused, and alone. For me, a most valuable aspect of therapy is connecting with a caring other and being able to undo the loneliness that one feels in their experience. Feeling connected in therapy allows individuals to access important core emotions and gain a deeper sense of themselves. My goal is that people leave therapy with a renewed sense of vitality and a coherent narrative of who they are.

My approach to therapy is greatly influence by my training in Intensive short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) and Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP). These models acknowledge the primacy of emotion in accomplishing insight and lasting change. I work from an attachment perspective and place great importance on the safety, support, and connection that one feels in the therapeutic relationship. Working from an attachment perspective creates space to observe and transform attachment patterns that are carried out in our relationships.

I am accepting and affirming of LGBTQ+ individuals. I am committed to recognizing and undoing oppressive systems of racism and injustice that impact mental health and emotional wellbeing.

I look forward to connecting with you on your journey.

Therapist

For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about connection. Connection with oneself and others is such a valuable aspect of our human experience. I find that many people seek therapy when disconnection occurs and they experience feeling lost, overwhelmed or stuck in repetitive patterns that cause distress.

I believe the key to effective therapy is to build a strong therapeutic alliance and facilitate an experience of connection where people can start the process of healing and change. My goal in therapy is to help you feel confident and empowered to take control of your life and become more connected with yourself and others.

I graduated from Northwestern University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and I received my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Western Michigan University.
